What is EVA?
If you are here, you have no doubt posed the question, what is EVA and why is it used in the luggage I am looking at? Fundamentally, EVA is a cross linked vinyl based material that has the following characteristics:
Most commonly EVA, or Expandable Vinyl Acetate is seen in the shock absorbent foam mid-sole of athletic, trail running and hiking shoes. It is used for its cushioning qualities and has an extremely wide range of applications due to its inherent strength and lightweight quality. In construction it is used for expansion joints, sound absorption, heat insulation and much more. In sports and leisure we see EVA show up in the form of camping mats, pool covers, body protectors, bicycle helmet to name but a few. The unique qualities of this material work very well in luggage styling as it is both flexible and lightweight, and it resists damage via its cushioning quality.
2002 was our first year using this revolutionary material in our luggage. Initially we took it on as a small sample investigating the resilient nature of the material. Due to our success and the overwhelming response by our customers we have now changed the majority of our luggage to EVA luggage.
